“It takes two flints to make a fire.” – Louisa May Alcott

What a privilege to work with Zach Franzen on The Green Ember Series. It’s hard to adequately express how much he has contributed to what goodness is in it. (And it goes far beyond his excellent art.) What a gift from God to me and to our readers.

What do you think of Zach’s art? Which of his Green Ember cover artwork is your favorite?

  1. Ember Falls! I think it is the most descriptive picture (if you know what I mean), and it leaves me wondering what is happening; it is very intriguing, and represents that book well.

    1. I agree! Ember Falls is my favorite cover, although the Green Ember is my favorite book (closely seconded by Ember Rising.)

  2. It is very hard to choose because they’re all great, but I’d have to say Ember Falls has the best cover art.
There is so much happening in the scene, both on the front and back of the book. There is lots of detail and more than a few characters shown. The colours suit the mood of the book and the defensive stance in which Heather and Picket are shown accurately represents the strong feel of war in the book.
(I know that war is a strong part of the storyline of all the books, but Ember Falls has the most battle in it. Ember Rising has battles, but they are the types of fights that happen within an evil society, which is different than a full-scale attack as free soldiers.)

  3. I think the Green Ember is the best one! It tells so much about the story just looking at it.

  4. There all my favorite!!! They all have so much detail, like Heather’s necklace in Ember Falls, and the patch on Picket’s shoulder. I think my most favorite out of all of them is………. Ember Rising! Heather’s hankerchierf is really a big part in the story. And Picket is so cool looking, with the sword and patch. Zach Franzen really didn’t leave ANYTHING out!!! Well done. ❤️

  5. I really can’t pick! All of his covers are amazing and the color palettes are sooooo beautiful!

  6. My favorite cover art by Zach Franzen is The Green Ember #1! It has always been my favorite cover of all of them! Mr. Smith, you need to write more books! I’m dying waiting for the next book!

  7. All of them are amazing AND I LOVE ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but if I had to pick, it would be Ember Falls and the Last Archer!!!!! It really looks like you could just walk right in to the books!!
but that could change with the new book which I am sure well be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for making such good art and stories!!!!!

  8. I think I’m in the minority, but I think my favorite cover is The Last Archer. After that my second favorite is The Wreck and Rise of Whitson Mariner and then The Black Star of Kingston. I love all of the books though although I really wish a certain missing character wasn’t missing. 🙁

  9. I think my favorite one is either Ember Rising or The Wreck and Rise of Whitson Mariner! It’s still really hard to choose though!

  10. Definitely Ember Falls! Though The Last Archer and Ember Rising are my favorite reads so far. Can’t wait for the fourth book!

  11. My favorite cover art is from ‘The Wreck and Rise of Whitson Mariner’. I also love ‘Ember Falls’ and ‘The Last Archer’! 🙂
