Green Ember: The Lost Cause Cover Reveal!

Happy days! The new cover is here and I’m delighted to share it with you. This is Green Ember Lost Tales Book III: The Lost Cause. It’s almost here!

Zach Franzen has once again created beautiful cover art in rounding out The Lost Tales trilogy here. Josiah, my son and Jack Zulu co-author, did an excellent job on the cover design. More quite wonderful human beans have been working behind the scenes (#BeansBehindTheScenes #RabbitsWithSwords) to get this book ready to be released into the wild. I’m so grateful for our team!

Early Access Signed Books: Signed books in amazing bundles will be exclusively available (while supplies last) on September 29th at my family store. Some very cool new merch this year. (See bottom of newsletter.) That’s in just two short weeks.

Get Ready!

Green Ember Lost Tales Book III: The Lost Cause will be available soon. While you wait, you can grab a SIGNED copy of Book I and Book II.

New Merch

Only available at my store: plushies and cards and a bag, oh my! And more. The favorites so far are Heather and Picket…Plushes? Stuffies? Plushies? Stuffed animals? Seems like the lingo changes each generation. When I was a kid it was always stuffed animals. That’s maybe a little gross? I will say plushies, but I cannot go so far as to utter stuffies.

Check the P.S. of this email for the next merch clue. While commenting with your guess, include your preferred way of calling these stuffed-furry-creatures-that-delight-and-comfort-kids-and-adults-alike.

I can’t wait to share this thrilling conclusion of the Lost Tales Trilogy with your family. This one’s a real corker.

I’m on your side,

Sam

  1. It’s a coffee mug! And I have always called them stuffed animals, but my children regrettably call them stuffies. Maybe I can start working “plushies” into our family’s vocabulary. Seems like a good middle ground!

  2. William (one of your biggest fans) says it’s a “quote mug of some sort!” Best guess … the Mended Wood song! In our home we call a stuffed animal – a “lovey” because they always get SO much love!

  3. Water bottle?! 🙂

I always called them stuffed animals and now my kids and I go between that and stuffies. They think plushies is strange 🤷‍♀️

  4. A Mended Wood ball cap -?
Hadn’t thought of the oddity until you mentioned it, but i too grew up with “stuffed animal” and stickin with it. Excited for the new book!

  5. A Helmer quote mug! I hope.

Stuffed animals growing up; stuffies now. But most of the time we just call them by name: Teddy, Pete, Kenny….

  6. I think that it is a Green Ember mug of some sort.

I call them stuffed animals but my kids say either stuffed animals or stuffies.

  7. People are saying it’s a coffee mug. My first thought was snow globe.🤪
But a mug sounds more likely.
I am excited about the new book! I have yet to read the lost tales trilogy.
I’m thirteen so I call them stuffies.

  8. A mug with the Bkackstar twins is my guess. One daughter says they are stuffed animals another daughter says that they are stuffies. I think who you hang out with influences your choice of terminology.

  9. We Gen Xers say stuffed animals, our 9 yo says stuffies. *sigh*

A mug, but with Picket/Sword. That’s our official collective guess.

  10. Definitely a mug, (which I’m thrilled about!) I’m not sure what design it is though. Maybe the Helmer mural? I love my Helmer quote mug! Me and my siblings have always called them stuffed animals.

  11. It’s a new mug! Can’t wait to see this one, I love my Helmer mug! Also, I’ve always called them stuffed animals, and I can’t wait to add Picket and Heather to my collection!

  12. “Stuffed animals” for the win. It fits perfectly with the honorable craft of taxidermy, which is how countless generations of pre-Internet children learned what most of the world’s animals actually looked like. Both “plushies” and “stuffies” sound ‘way too cutesy to be tolerable. Can you imagine how Helmer would respond to being called a plushie? It’s not for nothing that the stuffed Helmer that looks at me from across my desk bears a sword!

On the other hand, “stuffed animal” doesn’t sound right for the stuffed bananas and stuffed violins I’ve seen….

  13. Love that red crescent moon behind Heather and Picket on the new book cover! Also grew up calling them “stuffed animals,” but now I hear “stuffies” and “plushies”… I’m as confused as you are! Can’t wait to see what you end up calling them in the merch store. Maybe you will solve this modern conundrum.

  14. I’d guess the new merchandise to be a quotes mug, although for how I cannot fathom. I love the Helmer one, and will probably have to get this one too. I really like how big you make them, although these days I’m wishing they were even bigger!🤣 My younger siblings call them stuffies usually, but my prefered referal for them is stuffed-plushimals.

  15. Green Ember pillow!!
Also, I have just ‘inherited’ the saying of stuffed animals but now I think I will call them plushies!! Lol!! It sounds more satisfying if that makes sense!! LOL!!

  16. It might be a mug. Maybe with The Oath on it? I also think a Barry the Moose quotes mug would be AWESOME!!!
Also I have always said stuffed animals because that is what my mom calls them 🙂

  17. Hey Mr. Smith! I’m so excited for the last installment in the series! And my guess is a Mended Wood mug. I made sure to quickly scroll past the other comments so my guess would be original.

p.s. my birthday is this week and your Picket plushie (emphasis on word) is absolutely perfect. i’d love to get it as a gift someday. (i’m not hinting at anything lol).

  18. I guess I’ll go with the safe guess of the majority that it’s a mug. Can’t wait to see it. We just got our stuffed Helmer, and love him already! Like many others, I call them stuffed animals while my kids call them stuffies.

  19. A mug for sure! And it only has one handle for the one armed farmer! XD
Maybe it says ‘My Place Beside You’?

I usually always calm them stuffed animals! There so cute btw!

  20. I was thinking a plate until I saw the mug comments and looked again. I agree! It’s a mug with a good chunk of black so probably something with Helmer. 😀

  21. A mug! Hopefully one of those nifty heat-activated ones. Could have a picture of S.D. and when the hot beverage goes in, a speech bubble with a zinger of a quote appears.

Had a mini existential crisis when I realized I grew up calling them “stuffed animals,” but for some reason call my kids’ ones “stuffies.” I picture “stuffed animal” as the general category, and “stuffies” as the ones belonging to our household.

  22. It is a coffee mug! Specifically, one that has Smalls leaping with the star sword on it.

In our house, stuffed animals are called “stuffies” these days.

  23. It looks like a mug. Maybe the mended wood?

I grew up calling them stuffed animals.
I sometimes type stuffie because it’s shorter but you won’t catch me saying it out loud 😆.

With my kids it’s “stuffed animals” or “bedtime friends” since the 2 year old likes to hoard them.

  24. My boys say it’s a coffee mug!! 🙂 Also they want you to know that they don’t care if they win but they want to say that they think you’re the best author in the world! Also they love the video game! We’ve yet to finish it! 🙂
Thank you for creating books that are wholesome, fun, and adventurous! Keep it up.

  25. We think it’s a coffee mug!

And my kids think they should be called “stuffies” if it’s your favorite one. The group as a whole though is “stuffed animals.”

  26. Could it be perhaps a snow globe with Heather and Picket? or maybe I’m just hoping…
I guess I’m old enough to still call them stuffed animals, but the “stuffed animals” they make around here (out in the country), I try to ignore. Plushies are catchy, though.

  27. Looks like Helmer and a handle? So a Helmer mug! And it’s “stuffed animals”… except my kids occasionally call them “lovies”.

  28. Maybe it is a Joe mug. Me and my siblings have always called them stuffed animals. Stuffies and plushies just sound to cute, and stuffed animals are more formal and serious.

  29. I’m guessing it’s Helmer in a “stuffie” form as they call what I grew up calling “stuffed animals”.

  30. A mug with Smalls wearing his black scarf.

I don’t even know what I call them but I think I’ve used all the terms except plush.

  31. It is most definitely an ergonomic travel pillow for advertising our love of stories to make us brave while we sleep awkwardly in public places.

  32. A new mug design!! We call the beloved creatures stuffed animals around here. That’s what I grew up with, so that’s what we all call them.

  33. Oh oh! Is it a cape? Is the new item a cape with the double diamond emblem emblazoned on a corner? That would be awesome. As for what I’ve called “stuffed animals” they’ve always been Teddies at my home. 🙂

  34. A mug, probably…though not sure what it says.
As for the name of ‘stuffed-furry-creatures-that-delight-and-comfort-kids-and-adults-alike’ our family has always called them stuffed animals😂😆

  35. Mug (Mended wood tree maybe?)
And as for the stuffed creatures we (family of 7) endearingly call them Stuffies. The ones that are a child’s favorite, must-have-night-time-cuddle, are promoted in their name and called Lovies.

  36. The boys say it is a hot chocolate mug with book quotes on it but not Helmer quotes because there already is a Helmer mug. They also think there is a sword on it.

I grew calling them stuffed animals but my kids know them as stuffies….

  37. I was stumped till I saw what others were guessing; based on their guesses, I think it’s a mug! Fav word for stuffed animals: Snugglies! When I first heard “stuffies,” I felt somehow awkward or odd saying it and thus adapted an alternative! I think it has a nicer connotation. 😀
~Jenny, Mama of 4 Children Who Possess Untold Numbers of Snugglies Betwixt Themselves

  38. A mended wood mug would be so fun! Here in Australia we call plushies ‘teddies’ (short for teddy bear I guess) or stuffed toys. I have already ordered (and received) a Helmer teddie for my Green Ember obsessed daughter’s Christmas present. I will definitely have to add some of this new merch, she’ll be beside herself!

  39. Looks like a mug, one that would NOT be a “coffee” mug if I were the one using it. 😉

And I have finally gotten used to responding to both “stuffies” and “plushies” while holding fast to calling them “stuffed animals” myself.
