Parents, of course, must decide if the books are appropriate for kids with special sensitivities. For read-alouds, many families have found a wide age of kids (even as young as four and as old as older teens) can stay engaged. For independent reading, the sweet spot might begin around seven or eight, and go into the teens, depending on the child. Parents are always advised to read the book first if you are concerned.
Yes. It concludes what began with The Green Ember, and continued with Ember Falls, and Ember Rising.
Yes! More adventures are out there. There have been two books post-Ember’s End.
The Green Ember Archer adventures (Last Archer, First Fowler, Archer’s Cup) follow a supporting character, Jo Shanks, from the main four Green Ember books. They occur during the same rough timeline as the main four books, but feature different scenes and adventures not explored in the books that focus on Picket and Heather.
This video sums it up. It is specifically unconnected to modern political or social media movements. It’s connected to a deeper, older battle. It’s aimed at daily facing up to darkness and despair with the defiance of light. It is an exercise in modesty, hospitality, love, self-sacrifice, and faith. It’s specifically aimed to inspire and encourage those who take responsibility to love and serve vulnerable children—particularly in the arena of Imagination.
For now, future in-person events are the only places this story will be shared. We wish we could bring Sam everywhere he gets requests, but it takes an organized event with some planning and investment to take Sam away from what all his readers want him to be doing: writing more books!
