“I am afraid…But I keep on loving what’s on the other side of this fight, and that will have to make me brave.”

The Black Star of Kingston

And that is how a hero rises.

But what hero? Who was the founder of Natalia? What led to the inception of the oath we know and love?

The Black Star of Kingston has the answers:

A century before Heather and Picket’s adventures in The Green Ember, a displaced community fights for hope on the ragged edge of survival. Whitson Mariner and Fleck Blackstar face old fears and new enemies, forging a legend that will echo through the ages.
Old wars haunt. New enemies threaten. An oath is born.”

Watch the video to see what S.D. Smith has to say about this legendary oath!

Fun fact: The Black Star of Kingston shares a birthday month with World Emoji Day. Show us your favorite #rabbitswithswords emojis in the comments! Here’s ours: rabbit facecrossed swordsgreen heart

  1. I don’t have emojis on this computer, so this might not work…
:scream: for during all those plot twists
 for right after those plot twists
:flushed: for when I feel another plot twist coming

  2. 🥰🙏🏼😁
    Love the Green Ember!
Praying we win cuz we need new copies! Ours were so well-loved they fell apart!
Happy these books are in our lives!!

  3. I’m doing this again because I don’t see my reply, so if I appear to have entered twice, that is why:

    🥰🙏🏼😁

  4. Wish there was a way to enter that didn’t involve social media… can’t enter because those things are such a drain and waste of time, as a homeachooling mama of 4, I don’t have time for those to drain or distract me more than life already does.

Can you make a way to enter without social media?!? Kids love the seriese, and so do my husband and me. I even started reading the seriese to my brother after his brain surgery recovery. Kept us hopeful for his “mended wood” but his wife decided to just let him go and let hospice starve him to death over 6 weeks. So he is free and in the best mended wood thanks to Jesus, just leaves us sad here on this side for now.

    1. Hi Jill,
Thank you for your comment! You can comment here on the blog post with your three emoji’s to enter the giveaway! No social media required.
I’m so sorry to hear about the pain and loss you have experienced. It will not be so in the mended wood!

      Blessings,
      Josiah

  5. The first book of the Green Ember I ever read was The Black Star of Kingston. It was at one of the Great Homeschool Conventions in Cincinnati, OH. It was a 3-day event, so the first day I bought that one, the next day I got some of the others and my sister got the next Tales of Old Natalia book. They were really good. We ended up getting all the Green Ember books.
